Cameron Diaz is back [in action]! After a 10-year hiatus, the beloved actress returns in Back in Action, an action-comedy directed by Seth Gordon. Starring alongside Jamie Foxx, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, Kyle Chandler, and Glenn Close, Diaz plays Emily, a CIA operative on a mission to steal the powerful ICS Key from the terrorist Balthazzar Gor. After narrowly escaping a deadly ambush, Emily and her partner, Matt (Foxx), go into hiding to protect their family. Fifteen years later, their past catches up with them when Gor’s mercenaries and MI6 track them down, leading to a series of high-stakes chases and daring rescues across London. As they race to prevent a devastating attack, they must confront old enemies…

Back in Action blends action and comedy in a fun, lighthearted way, hitting all the classic tropes — car chases, shootouts, and daring rescues — without taking itself too seriously. The chemistry between Foxx and Diaz shines, with the pair navigating increasingly absurd situations so exaggerated that they become part of the fun, turning tense moments into playful and funny moments. 

However, the editing in most of the action scenes feels a bit off, lacking the smoothness and fluidity needed to fully engage with the sequences. On top of that, the plot doesn’t offer much of what's fresh or new, relying on familiar action-comedy clichés. While not groundbreaking, Back in Action still provides an enjoyable ride, mixing enough thrills and humor to keep it light and fun. Glenn Close is a standout, adding an extra layer of enjoyment with her hilarious performance.
