The Selection For the Orizzonti Short Films - International Competition

The 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival is set to run from August 27 to September 6, 2025, and we’re excited to share that it’s another major stop on our festival circuit this year—we’ll be on the ground covering all the highlights from the Lido!

With the full program announcement just around the corner, the Biennale has unveiled its selection for the Orizzonti Short Film International Competition.

This year, 14 short films will compete for the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film, while 1 additional short film will screen Out of Competition. The lineup features world premiere screenings representing 19 countries from around the globe, showcasing a vibrant and diverse range of cinematic voices.

In Competition (in alphabetical order)

  • El Origen Del Mundo dir. Jazmin Lopez (Argentina) - 12 minutes
  • Je Crois Entendre Encore dir. Constance Bonnot (France) - 16 minutes
  • Kushta Mayn, La Mia Costantinopoli dir. Nicolò Folin (Italy) - 19 minutes
  • La Ligne de Vie dir. Hugo Becker (France) - 20 minutes
  • Lion Rock dir. Nick Mayow, Prisca Bouchet (New Zealand) - 16 minutes
  • Merrimundi dir. Niles Atallah (China) - 21 minutes
  • Nedostupni dir. Kyrylo Zemlyanyi (Ukraine/France/Belgium/Bulgaria/Netherlands) - 20 minutes
  • Norheimsund dir. Ana Alpizar (Cuba/USA) - 12 minutes
  • Praying Mantis dir. Joe Hsieh, Yonfan (Taipei/Hong Kong SAR) - 18 minutes
  • Saint Simeon dir. Olubunmi Ogunsola (Nigeria) - 18 minutes
  • The Curfew dir. Shehrezad Maher (USA) - 19 minutes 
  • Utan Kelly dir. Lovisa Sirén (Sweden) - 15 minutes
  • You Jian Chui Yan dir. Viv Li (Germany/Belgium/Canada) - 15 minutes

Out of Competition

  • Rukeli dir. Alessandro Rak (Italy) - 5 minutes’
